Charleston play wins audience award at New York International Fringe Festival

“Perfectly Normel People,” a play by Thomas and Judy Heath that recently had a run in the New York International Fringe Festival, won the TheaterMania Audience Favorite Award. There were 185 festival shows in contention for the prize.

The play was one of 18 invited back to Fringe Encores, where it will run Off-Broadway Sept. 25-29.

The comedy had its world premiere last year at Footlight Theatre as part of the Piccolo Spoleto Festival.

“We were so proud of the great job our Charleston actors and crew did at the festival,” Judy Heath said in a statement. “It was challenging circumstances transporting an entire production up the coast for two weeks, but everyone stepped up and did a fantastic job.”

“ ‘Perfectly Normel People’ is the only national ensemble show outside of New York City that will be performing, and it’s quite an honor to represent the Charleston area at this festival,” said John Bamond, stage manager.
