Dorchester deputies trying to determine links between body, overnight shooting
A body found Friday morning in a ditch along Dorchester Road is apparently tied to an overnight disturbance and shooting incident at a nearby nightclub, Dorchester County sheriff’s deputies said.
The body was reported near North Charleston near the intersection of Dorchester and Ashley Phosphate roads at about 6:45 a.m., Capt. Tony Phinney said.
Dorchester County Coroner Chris Nisbet said that the deceased person was a man. The man had not yet been identified Friday afternoon, and Nisbet did not provide further details surrounding the death.
Hours earlier, shots were reported nearby at a shopping plaza that is home to Rehab Bar & Grill at 8484 Dorchester Road, Phinney said. Four people later showed up at Trident Medical Center for treatment in connection with the incident, at least one with gunshot wounds, he said.
Deputies searched the area at the time and there was no sign of the body that later showed up in the ditch, Phinney said. Initial speculation centered on whether the person who died perhaps was injured and hiding from deputies at the time.
An autopsy is scheduled to determine how that person died.
An incident report concerning the shooting was not available on Friday.
