ISLE of PALMS — A young loggerhead sea turtle will be returned to the ocean today, along with three other sea turtles — two Kemp’s ridleys and a green.

The releases would mean nearly 130 of the threatened and endangered species have successfully been returned to the wild after treatment for injuries at the South Carolina Aquarium Sea Turtle Rescue Program.

Held in partnership with S.C. Department of Natural Resources, the releases have become a popular event; onlookers line either side of the path the creatures will crawl to the surf.

The event is scheduled 10 a.m. at Isle of Palms County Park, 1 14th Ave. Parking fees will apply at the park and other lots.
