Citadel basketball has received a verbal commitment from 6-4 shooting guard Jake Wright of Hopkins High School in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Described in some scouting reports as “the best shooter in Minnesota,” Wright averaged 18 points and shot 43 percent from 3-point range for Hopkins last season. At the prestigious Peach Jam tournament last summer, he averaged 8.2 points and shot 43.3 percent from long distance.
“Jake has been a great player for us,” said Hopkins coach Ken Novack, who has led his team to six state titles in the last 12 years. “He shoots the ball probably as well as anybody you’ll see in the country. He can really shoot it.
“Jake had a lot of schools interested in him, but I think he really likes the education he can get at The Citadel, the staff and the kids there. He’s excited about it.”
Wright’s Howard Pulley Panthers AAU team won a national title last summer, as well.
Wright is the only scholarship player the Bulldogs will take for 2014.
