The driver of a van died after crashing into a ditch, a tree and a roadway sign in Berkeley County early Thursday morning, according to South Carolina Highway Patrol officials.
The wreck occurred on Old Dairy Road at 4:55 a.m., officials said. The driver was headed west on Old Dairy Road and drove off the left side of the road, according to Trooper Bridget Wyant.
He was trapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated by firefighters. The driver died at Trident hospital, officials said.
Berkeley County Coroner Bill Salisbury identified the driver as 45-year-old Jackie Moore of Summerville. He was wearing a seatbelt, Salisbury said.
The coroner ruled his death accidental.
