Ford cars

Ford is recalling 370,000 cars due to potential corrosion to their steering shafts that may result in the loss of steering. No incidents have been reported. The cars include 2005-11 Ford Crown Victoria, Mercury Grand Marquis and Lincoln Town Cars. About 355,000 are in the U.S. and 15,000 in Canada.

Dealers will inspect and repair the cars. South Carolina is not included, but owners can ask for inspections and repairs.


About 11,300 CE Tech riser cables sold in boxes of 1,000-foot lengths. It is intended to run between floors of a building as data cable. This type of cable must self-extinguish in a fire. The cable is gray and marked (UL) E316395. The box is blue and black and is marked CE Tech 1,000 ft. riser cable, Cat 6 23-4. They were sold at Home Depot Inc. stores in January and February. The riser cable does not meet fire resistance standards.

Bike forks

About 970 Surly Pugsley bicycle forks, made by Aprebic Industry Co. Ltd. of Taiwan, a wholly owned brand of Quality Bicycle Products Inc. The recall involves 100mm and 135mm bicycle forks made of tubular chromoly steel. The 100mm bicycle forks were sold individually only. They are black, have triple water bottle mounts on each side, rack/fender mounts on the top and bottom and have date code 2012 03 20 stamped on the steerer tube. “Surly” is printed on both legs of the fork. “Pugsley” is printed on the fork’s packaging and frame.

They were sold May 2012-February 2013. The forks can bend above the disc brake mount, posing a fall hazard to the rider.

Riding mowers

About 3,700 2012 and 2013 Toro Z Master Commercial 2000 Series ZRT riding mowers. The mowers are red and black. “Toro” and “2000 Series” are printed on the side and “Z Master Commercial” on the front of the mowers. When viewed from the operator’s seat, the model and serial numbers are on a metal plate at the front of the mower, below the seat, on the right-hand side. They were sold at Toro dealers nationwide January 2012-April 2013.

The idler pulley can rub against the mower’s fuel tank, posing a fire hazard. There have been six reports of incidents. No injuries have been reported.

Convection heaters

About 4,560 Touch Point portable baseboard convection heaters made by Foshan Guanmei Electrical Co. with number model BBC-1500 and date code 0611. “Touch Point” can be found on the front of the product and the model and date code can be found on a silver sticker on the back side of the product. The heaters were made in June 2011 and sold at Meijer stores September 2011-February 2013.

The heaters can overheat, posing a fire hazard. There have been two reports of overheating, including one of a fire that resulted in minor property damage.

Food dehydrators

About 14,600 five-tray food dehydrators with digital timers. The dehydrators are gray and are made of plastic and metal. The model number 1009 is on a label on the back panel with the company’s contact details. The “LEM” logo is embossed on the top of the unit, which has a panel with the digital timer, the on/off switch and a temperature control knob. The UPC code is printed on the bottom of the packaging and reads 73449401009. They were sold August 2010-February.

The fan can fail causing the unit to overheat and pose a fire hazard. At least two reports of fan failure resulted in fire in the units. This product also was recalled in February 2011.
