Driver killed after trying U-turn on Dorchester County road

A driver trying to make an illegal U-turn on a Dorchester County highway was hit and killed Saturday night, according to the Highway Patrol.

Dwayne M. Addison, 50, of Pine Mountain Drive in Forest Park, Ga. died as a result of the wreck, according to Chris Nisbet, Dorchester County’s coroner.

A 2002 Pontiac sedan was going north on U.S. Highway 17-A Saturday night when the driver attempted a U-turn near Clubhouse Road about 9:10 p.m., according to Senior Trooper Bridget Wyant.

Another vehicle going in the same direction hit the Pontiac on the driver’s side door, knocking it into a third vehicle traveling south, according to Wyant.

The driver of the Pontiac died at the scene. One of the other drivers was taken to Summerville Medical Center.

All three drivers were wearing seatbelts, Wyant said.
