Stingrays sign rookies Allan, Janosz

The South Carolina Stingrays signed forward Tory Allan and defenseman Tom Janosz.

Allan, 24, recorded 62 points (28 goals, 34 assists) in 84 games over three seasons at Norwich University including a career-high 31 points (10 goals, 21 assists) last season while skating alongside current Stingrays forward Kyle Thomas.

Before moving into the NCAA ranks, the Davidson, Saskatchewan, native skated four seasons of junior hockey in the SJHL with the Humboldt Broncos, totaling 49 goals and 50 assists for 99 points in 156 contests.

Janosz, 25, completed a four-year collegiate career at the University of Connecticut, acquiring 22 points (five goals, 17 assists) in 127 games. Prior to dressing with the Huskies, the Elma, N.Y., product suited up for five seasons of junior hockey in the BCHL, USHL and OPJHL, adding up 14 goals and 65 assists for 79 points in 249 games.


Former player Henry Smart has rejoined the College of Charleston men’s golf program as an assistant coach.

Smart transferred to C of C from the University of Virginia where he was the Cavaliers’ No. 2 finisher at the 2010 NCAA East Regional and tied a course record at the Honors Course with a 6-under 66 during the second round of the 2010 NCAA Championships as a sophomore. That season, he also was ranked No. 20 in the ACC in stroke average at 73.07 and placed 16th as UVa’s second-highest finisher at the ACC Championship.

As a senior during the 2011-12 season, Smart competed in 10 tournaments with four top-15 finishes for the Cougars.
