24-year-old Goose Creek man fatally shot outside Rivers Avenue bar; North Charleston man charged with murder
One man is dead and another is charged with murder after police said an argument led to a shooting outside of a Rivers Avenue bar early Sunday morning.
North Charleston police officers responded to reports of a shooting at North Park Grill at 8780 Rivers Ave. about 1:20 a.m., Deputy Chief Scott Deckard said.
A 24-year-old man was lying in the parking lot with an apparent gunshot wound, according to police. He later died at Trident Hospital.
Michael Knight, 24, of Goose Creek died of a gunshot wound, according to the Charleston County Coroner’s Office.
Officers identified a possible suspect during the investigation and searched for the man at his home in the area of Crossroads Drive in North Charleston, Deckard said. While there, a resident told police someone was hiding in the bushes nearby. Officers found the 26-year-old man and detained him for questioning.
Deckard said they believe the two men were arguing at the bar prior to the shooting.
North Charleston police today at about noon charged Chad Thomas Cochran, 26, of North Charleston with murder and possession of a firearm in the commission of a violent crime, Deckard said.
Cochran is scheduled to appear at a bond hearing at 10 a.m. Monday.
