Girls inside Georgia store wounded by gunfire after rifle discharges
SPRINGFIELD, Ga. — Authorities say two teenage girls inside a store were wounded by gunfire from a rifle, which discharged when it was thrown outside a nearby house.
Sheriff’s officials in Effingham County say the two 17-year-old girls were treated for injuries that are not considered life-threatening.
Authorities say the shooting happened Saturday afternoon at the Griffin Lake Store, and was part of what sheriff’s officials consider a domestic dispute.
Sheriff’s spokesman David Ehsanipoor said the investigation found that 20-year-old Samantha King of Guyton threw the rifle outside the residence during the dispute. He said the gun discharged, firing into the store.
Ehsanipoor said there’s no indication that the firearm was discharged intentionally. He said King faces a charge of reckless conduct. It wasn’t known Sunday whether she has an attorney.
