Berkeley County School District has 838 more students than it did last year, according to district officials.
As of the eighth day of school, enrollment in kindergarten through 12th grade is 30,959.
Additionally, the district serves 842 4-year-old students in the S.C. Child Development Education Pilot Program and 92 3- and 4-year old students in a specially designed preschool program for developmentally handicapped children.
Berkeley County residents passed a $198 million school improvement referendum to build five new schools and renovate 29 others. Officials have estimated the district will grow by re than 18,000 new students by 2029-30.
