The South Carolina Research Authority is organizing a cyber security conference that focuses on businesses and local governments.

The Cyber Security for National Security Conference is scheduled for Sept. 10 at the Courtyard by Marriott Charleston Historic District at 125 Calhoun St. in downtown Charleston.

Organizers said most of the attention about the issue has been aimed at the impact on federal agencies. The purpose of the Charleston conference is to “address the cyber infrastructure needs of state and local governments and small to mid-sized companies,” according to a statement.

The event will include speakers from the University of South Carolina, The Citadel, the U.S. Cyber Command and the National Security Agency.

The registration fee ranges from $75 for students to $195 for businesses.

The state-chartered Research Authority is organizing the day-long conference with a private company, Homeland Security Outlook.
