State Law Enforcement Division agents are investigating after a body was found after a fire overnight at Waverly Place Apartments in North Charleston.

Dorchester County Coroner Chris Nisbet identified the deceased woman as 29-year-old Rachel LeCroy. An autopsy is scheduled to determine a cause of death, he said.

Dorchester County sheriff’s deputies were called to the apartment H1 at 300 Waverly Place Circle about 10:25 p.m. on Monday concerning a fire, Chief Deputy Sam Richardson said.

Ashley River firefighters discovered the woman’s body when they entered the home, Richardson said.

SLED agents responded to the scene to help determine the fire’s cause. Spokesman Thom Berry confirmed that SLED is assisting in the investigation, but he said he could not provide any further details.
