Traffic is now moving slowly on the eastbound lanes of Interstate 26 near Dorchester Road following a single-car accident.

The crash occurred at 12:45 p.m. The car was on fire when North Charleston Police arrived at the scene, officials said. Police contained the fire using portable extinguishers until firefighters arrived and extinguished the blaze. Rescuers extricated one person from the vehicle and transported the patient to Medical University hospital. The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating what caused the crash.
