A move is on to improve driving conditions along Maybank Highway on James Island, particularly at the intersection with Wappoo Creek Drive at the James Island Shopping Center.
June Waring, of the James Island Public Service District, said a petition drive is underway, including by merchants, to add a green turn arrow from westbound Maybank into the shopping center.
Without a designated arrow, the turn remains a hazard for people trying to cross traffic, she said. The issue will be discussed at the PSD meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, 1739 Signal Point Road.
Charleston City Councilwoman Kathleen Wilson said the entire intersection is ripe for improvement and that the area could be a point of cooperation for the city, the PSD and the town of James Island.
