MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — A wanted as a fugitive in California has been arrested in South Carolina.
Horry County sheriff’s deputies and U.S. marshals arrested 59-year-old Donald Eugene Byrd in Myrtle Beach on Tuesday.
Deputies say Byrd is wanted by the Los Angeles Police Department for taking a child. Deputies say Byrd took his 12-year-old grandson from the child’s mother’s home and has been on the run for two years.
The boy was taken into protective custody.
Byrd is jail in Conway awaiting extradition to California.
