Beaufort Base gets look at Joint Strike Fighters
BEAUFORT, S.C. -- Beaufort residents have gotten a look at the new Joint Strike Fighter that is to be based at the Marine Corps Air Station.
Two of the F-35B jets visited the Marine Corps Air Station on Tuesday. About 150 people were on hand for the invitation-only event to see the new aircraft. The fighters will be part of the training squadron moving to Beaufort next year.
Those who attended included elected officials and contractors working on construction projects to get the base ready for the new jets that will replace the F-18 Hornets.
The Marine Corps Air Station will eventually be home to three combat squadrons and two training squadrons of the new F-35Bs.
