Charleston police on Tuesday arrested a Myrtle Beach man accused of raping a woman in her home.
Ryan Thrasher, 23, of 36th Avenue North in Myrtle Beach, is charged with first-degree criminal sexual conduct in connection with the incident, jail records show.
Charleston officers were dispatched to a Pitt Street home about 5:30 a.m. concerning a sexual assault, an incident report states.
A 21-year-old woman told police that she awoke to an unknown man raping her in her bed.
The woman asked her attacker who he was. He replied that his name was “Ryan” and that they had met in a bar, police said.
The woman exclaimed that the man’s story wasn’t true. She then jumped out of bed and alerted her friends to the situation, police said.
Police identified Thrasher as a friend of one of the woman’s roommates. That friend had allowed Thrasher to sleep on the couch prior to the incident, police said.
Thrasher is being held at the Charleston County jail pending a bond hearing.
