11-year-old girl bitten by fox on way to bus stop for first day of school

An 11-year-old girl was walking to the bus stop for her first day of school in Pineville this morning when she was attacked by a fox.

The fox came out from under the porch of a home on Pineville Circle, according to Capt. Robert McCullough of the state Department of Natural Resources.

The girl’s grandfather killed the fox, and the state Department of Health and Environmental Control was expected to run tests on the animal.

The child was treated for puncture wounds, according to McCullough.
