Gas leak that closed King Street in downtown Charleston fixed

A section of King Street that has been closed because of a gas leak is expected to reopen by 4:30 p.m, according to city officials.

A construction crew ruptured a gas line at 501 King St. about 2:15 p.m. Nearby streets were closed while repairs were made. Firefighters, a hazmat unit and police officers were on scene.

King Street between Wolfe and Ann streets and Morrison Drive from King to St Philip streets remained closed at 3:45 p.m. A crew from S.C. Electric & Gas had stopped the gas leak, and the streets were expected to reopen about a half hour later.
