The types of possible buyers for one upscale West Ashley home likely would fit on a sheet of paper but may require small print and a few scribbles to squeeze them in.

“I think it’s a great family home,” says Amy Zonarich, Realtor with Places Real Estate. She is listing agent for the house, at 1635 McClain St. “It’s close to (private schools) Porter Gaud and Ashley Hall,” she says.

“You are five minutes from MUSC,” Zonarich says, a nicety that would perk up doctors’ ears.

The airy house is in Wappoo Shores, which Zonarich describes as a “quiet little neighborhood.” While raised, the residence takes up one finished story and includes space for an elevator: potential pluses for a retired couple or seniors.

Meanwhile, the home encompasses a built-in office, convenient for a professional; sprawling underneath garage, offering space for a do-it-yourselfer; stocked kitchen; landscaped yard; and tidal creek dock with tributary access – appealing to boating enthusiasts or sportsmen.

True, the butcher, baker and candlestick maker weren’t mentioned as suitors but that doesn’t necessarily put them out of the running.

“It’s a pretty wide market,” Zonarich says.

The 2,023-square-foot home with ample lawn front and back is listed at $599,000, down from its original price of $625,000.

Built in 1993, the traditional-style residence contains three bedrooms and two-and-a-half baths. Considering the presence of a dock, the overall property size and its panoramic sights, “I think it (the price) is great,” she says.

The house, which went on the market 35 days ago, has already attracted interest.

“I think the greatest feature are the sweeping views,” Zonarich says. Even from the foyer, the broad marsh is visible. “The whole back of the home is all windows,” she says. Sights extend to the Intracoastal Waterway and Stono River.

In Zonarich’s opinion, the nearest location with comparable marsh views is Oak Island off Folly Beach.

The 150-foot dock juts out to a 144-square-foot “floater” on Sandy Point Creek. The stream, at least a foot to two deep even at low tide, feeds Coburg Creek and then the ICW and the Stono.

Inside, 1635 McClain St. is at once comfortably open and peacefully cloistered. Hardwood floors, found everywhere but the tile bathrooms and carpeted bedrooms, provide the layout with a common pattern.

A split floor plan leaves the master bedroom private on one wing of the house while providing a spacious feel to the living quarters, dining area and kitchen. A vaulted ceiling and marble fireplace mark the family room. The kitchen includes stainless steel appliances, solid wood cabinets and a dumbwaiter.

An office opens off a short hallway from the kitchen. The owner “works from home a lot,” she explains. If so desired, though, the space can be converted to a bedroom. Adjacent to the office is a guest bedroom.

The “generous” master suite comes complete with large bedroom and sizable bathroom with elongated stand up shower, dual vanities and extra large clothes closet.

Off the master suite stands a “totally private” screened-in porch. It’s under a sprawling oak tree, offering lots of shade, she says. There’s also a screen porch accessible from the kitchen.

A hallway door opens to a flight of circular stairs spiraling to the ground level garage. The garage can accommodate three cars and includes a half-bath, “work out” room and plenty of storage space.

In terms of power-saving perks, the home touts a gas stove in the kitchen and natural gas line to a grill on the uncovered deck outside. The backyard provides sufficient space for a swimming pool and perhaps a little extra, such as a changing room with half-bath, she says.

All the same, the house provides key perks without any new features.

“Enjoy the views as you lie in bed or relax in the hammock on your secluded screened porch,” Zonarich says in her listing.

The residence sits toward the south end of McClain Street. Heading west, take Savannah Highway for about three miles from the Ashley River Bridge. Turn left on Betsy Drive, which crosses the West Ashley Greenway. Make a right on Timothy Street, then an immediate left on Cabell Street. Take the first right on McClain Street. The road jogs to the left. A few houses ahead on the right is 1635 McClain St.
