JOHNS ISLAND – Reona Hirai of Summerville and Tyler Young of Kennesaw, Ga., captured the girls and boys titles Wednesday in the Beth Daniel Junior Azalea golf tournament played at The Golf Club at Briars Creek.
Hirai, the South Carolina Junior Golf Association’s Beth Daniel Player of the Year, shot a final-round 69 for a 2-under-par total of 142. She shot 5-under-par 31 on the front nine and got to 6-under with a birdie on the 13th hole. Hirai bogeyed 16, 17 and 18 but still finished three shots in front of Anne Taylor Hough of Spartanburg.
Young started the day one back of the lead but a 5-under 67 helped him earn a three-shot win over Will Miles of Hilton Head.
