JOHNS ISLAND – Reona Hirai of Summerville and Adam Garrett of Easley lead their respective divisions after Tuesday’s opening round of the Beth Daniel Junior Azalea golf tournament being played at The Golf Club at Briars Creek.

Hirai shot a 1-over-par 73 for a one-shot lead over Riley Lovorn of Anderson in the girls 13-18 division. Hirai, who won the South Carolina Junior Golf Association’s 2012 Beth Daniel Player of the Year award, had two birdies and three bogeys for the round.

Garrett holds a one-stroke lead over three players heading into today’s final round. Garrett overcame two early birdies five birdies in a seven-hole stretch starting at the ninth.
