Lowcountry food warriors will light up television screens in the coming week.
Allison Smith of Glazed Gourmet Doughnuts in Charleston will be one of three contestants in the Cooking Channel’s Donut Showdown airing at 10 p.m. today. She faces off against doughnut-makers from Calgary and Brooklyn, N.Y., in a mystery-ingredient elimination round.
The final two standing have to impress the judges by making three doughnuts with a “Bollywood” theme. The winner takes home $10,000.
At 7 p.m. Sunday on the Food Network, it will be Charleston Gourmet Burger Company versus Holy City Pizzeria on “Food Court Wars.”
The show features teams across the country competing against each other for the chance to open a restaurant, rent-free, for one year in a mall food court.
Charleston Gourmet Burger Company is the husband-and-wife team of Chevalo and Monique Wilsondebriano.
Holy City Pizzeria consists of Topher Pecora and his fiancee, Kacie Faulling.
The show is hosted by celebrity chef and South Carolina native Tyler Florence.
