The search for a new leader at the Medical University of South Carolina is almost officially on.
The MUSC Board of Trustees will discuss how to replace President Ray Greenberg this week during its first regular meeting since Greenberg announced his resignation last month.
Greenberg has accepted a top administration position within the University of Texas health care system. He will remain in Charleston through August. Provost Mark Sothmann will act as interim president until a permanent replacement is found.
MUSC Board of Trustees Chairman Tom Stephenson said he anticipates that the board will talk about forming a search committee and hiring a head hunter when the group meets Thursday for its regular committee meetings. He underscored the importance of this process.
“This is the most important thing the board does,” Stephenson said.
In July, Stephenson said that hiring a replacement will likely take several months.
The board also will introduce five new members next week — Ragin Monteith, Michael Stavrinakis, Murrell Smith Sr., James Battle and Barbara Johnson-Williams.
