Comcast customers all over the Lowcountry lost service again for several hours Wednesday.
Phone, internet and television outages were reported starting about 5 p.m. in downtown Charleston, North Charleston, West Ashley, James Island, Johns Island, Mount Pleasant, Hanahan, Ladson, Goose Creek, Walterboro.
By 10 p.m., reports were coming in from all over that service had been restored.
A Comcast customer service representative sent out a tweet saying the problem was a cut fiber cable on Highway 17.
Thousands of local Comcast customers lost service for more than 10 hours May 29, leaving businesses unable to operate and restaurants unable to process credit cards at the height of the Spoleto Festival. A Comcast spokesperson said service went down last time when a construction crew working on a bridge on Highway 17 south of Charleston cut a fiber-optic cable owned by another communications company and a backup circuit also failed.
There was no indication Wednesday whether it was the same cable that was cut again.
