Saturday was a big day for the crew of Showtime. Showtime not only won the Edisto Marina Billfish Tournament, the Toler’s Cove-based boat also captured the 2013 South Carolina Governor’s Cup Billfishing Series.

Showtime, owned by Fred Hardwick and captained by Wink Doerzbacher, moved into first place in the series on Thursday by releasing a blue marlin and a sailfish and added another blue marlin and sailfish Saturday to finish the tournament with 1,600 release points.

Rascal, owned by Norman Pulliam and captained by Mark Rogers, also released a blue marlin and sailfish Saturday to go along with a blue marlin caught Thursday to finish second with 1,400 points.

Third place, also with 1,400 points, went to Game On, owned by Bubba Roof and captained by Trey McMillan. Game On released two blue marlin and a sailfish Saturday.

Sportin’ Life, which led the series going into the Edisto tournament, released a sailfish Saturday but was unable to regain its lead.

In the non-billfish categories, Daymaker won the wahoo category with a 61.0-pound catch; Can’t Complain had the top dolphin at 38.2 pounds; and Trashman won the tuna division with a 21.2-pound blackfin tuna.

Showtime, which also won the Bohicket Marina tournament, finished the Governor’s Cup with 5,975 points. Rascal finished second with 5,075, followed by Sportin’ Life with 4,810 and Game On with 4,775.

There were eight blue marlin releases and five sailfish releases Saturday by the 27 boats that fished. For the tournament, anglers released 14 blue marlin and 18 sailfish.

During the five-tournament Governor’s Cup Series, participants released 64 blue marlin, 14 white marlin and 100 sailfish. Two blue marlin were brought to the dock during the series, both caught during the first event of the series in Georgetown.
