Showtime did not fish Friday but managed to hang on to a tenuous lead in the Edisto Marina Billfish Tournament.
Showtime, which overtook Sportin’ Life for the overall South Carolina Governor’s Cup Billfishing Series lead on Thursday by releasing a blue marlin and a sailfish, is still eligible to fish today. Boats are allowed to fish two out of three days.
Showtime, owned by Fred Hardwick and captained by Wink Doerzbaher, has 800 points and is in first place based on time. Petrel, owned by Harry Johnson and captained by Thomas Wynne, also has 800 points after releasing four sailfish Friday but has used both its fishing days. Rascal, with a blue marlin release and 600 points on Thursday, slipped to third but can fish today.
Sportin’ Life had a 4,610-4,375 lead over Showtime going into the Edisto event, the final tournament in the 2013 Governor’s Cup and also is eligible to fish today.
Nine boats fished Friday, releasing one blue marlin and six sailfish. Thus far participants have released six blue marlin and 13 sailfish. Three of the 30 boats in the event have used all their fishing days.
In the non-billfish categories, Daymaker moved into first in the wahoo category with a 61.0-pound catch and Can’t Complain took over the dolphin lead with a 38.2-pound catch. Summer Girl leads the tuna division with a 15.8-pound fish.
