Man wounded in downtown Charleston shooting, police say

Charleston police are investigating a shooting that left one man wounded Thursday night.

An officer ran toward Hanover and Line streets after hearing at least six gunshots about 10 p.m., an incident report states.

A wounded man gestured toward Line Street as police searched for a shooter, the report said. Police lost sight of the gunman near Nassau Street.

The wounded man was transported to Medical University Hospital with injuries that did not appear to be life threatening, police spokesman Charles Francis said.

A suspect in the case was not identified Thursday night.

The shooting remains under investigation, police said.
