DOT delays public hearing on I-26 tree-clearing plan
The South Carolina Department of Transportation has postponed a public hearing originally scheduled for Aug. 1 in Summerville concerning the proposed tree clearing and guardrail project along I-26 through Berkeley and Dorchester counties.
The Berkeley-Charleston-Dorchester Council of Governments this week established an ad-hoc committee to review the proposed project.
“We will be delaying the public hearing until a clear project plan can be developed and presented to the public,” said Tony Sheppard, director of traffic engineering.
“SCDOT looks forward to working with the COG’s committee to seek alternative solutions that can be put before the public for review,” said Sheppard.
The public and media will be notified when a new date for the hearing has been scheduled.
