Two Folly Beach officers suspended

FOLLY BEACH -- Two city public safety officers were given suspensions of three days without pay after they reportedly entered the county pier after hours.

Police Chief Dennis Brown said today the pair climbed over a gate while they were off duty during the night of June 29-30.

He identified the officers as Josh Allen and Ben O’Brien. Both have been with the city for about a year, he said.

The officers violated city policy covering lack of good judgment, Brown said, calling the incident “unfortunate.”

Two other people, whom Brown identified as service members, were with the officers.

The suspensions are in the process of being served, Brown said, and the investigation is on-going.
