Shem Creek could be dredged next year, and the Morris Island impoundment could be used to hold the materials.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has applied for about $1 million in funds to deepen the entrance to the historic shrimp boat and popular recreation boat waterway in Mount Pleasant. The dredging would take place in 2014 if funding is provided, said David Warren, project manager. No money has been awarded yet.
Mount Pleasant would “piggyback” on the project to deepen the creek near its dockside park, Warren said.
