Mount Pleasant police on Monday arrested a Bowman man who they said exposed himself to numerous women over the last three months in a spree through Mount Pleasant and Charleston.
Mount Pleasant police charged Keith Preston Crum, 31, with 10 counts of indecent exposure and two counts of first-degree assault, Maj. Stan Gragg said. Crum also will face three counts of indecent exposure and one count of third-degree criminal sexual conduct in Charleston, police said.
Mount Pleasant police were dispatched about 3 p.m. Monday to U.S. Highway 17 near Frontage and Bowman roads concerning a man exposing himself “in a lewd and lascivious manner” to a woman at a bus stop, an incident report states.
A juvenile witness saw the man run from the scene with what appeared to be a mask over his face and drive away in a truck, according to the report. The witness took down the truck’s license plate number, police said.
Officers located the truck near Shellmore Drive and Crum was placed under arrest, police said.
An investigation by Mount Pleasant and Charleston detectives linked Crum to multiple incidents in both jurisdictions, police said, including a woman who reported on April 11 that a man grabbed her from behind and fondled her breasts before he stole her cellphone on Chuck Dawley Boulevard.
On April 14, another woman told police that she spotted a man leaning against a magnolia tree during her morning run on Pitt Street. The man’s shorts were pulled down around his knees, fully exposing his genitals, an incident report states.
The man briefly followed the woman as she ran past him, police said. She then yelled at the man to leave, prompting him to run in a different direction, the report states.
On June 4, a 22-year-old woman told Charleston police that a man pushed her to the ground on Bull Street and sexually assaulted her before running off, a police report states.
On June 21, a woman reported to Mount Pleasant police that a man approached her from behind and pulled her skirt down on Etiwan Pointe Drive.
Another woman, 22, told Charleston police on July 2 that she was walking to the College of Charleston library when she encountered a man with a T-shirt over his face exposing himself and masturbating at Coming and Duncan streets.
Crum is being held at the Charleston County jail in lieu of $150,000 bail.
