A 56-year-old man is accused of pulling a knife on two security officers while allegedly trying to steal a Blu-Ray player from a West Ashley Walmart on Monday, Charleston police said.
Willie Wright Jr. of Rosebush Lane in Charleston is charged with property crime enhancement and two counts of second-degree assault and battery. He was being held in the Charleston County jail.
Security workers at the 3951 West Ashley Circle store told police they confronted Wright after he was seen trying to walk out without paying for the player. After he led them on a chase through the store, Wright dropped the player, pulled out of a knife and waved it at the workers, saying “Get Back. I will cut you,” according to an incident report.
One worker was slightly cut on his right hand by Wright, police said.
Wright ran off into surrounding woods but was later caught by police as he walked out onto Bees Ferry Road, an incident report said.
Wright was previously convicted of property crime enhancement-third offense in 2009, police said.
