A historic marker to commemorate a lunch counter protest against segregation is planned for downtown Charleston.

The Preservation Society of Charleston will unveil the marker at 3 p.m. Aug. 4 at the S.H. Kress Building at King and Wentworth streets. That was the site of a lunch counter protest by a group of Burke High School students on April 1, 1960.

Speakers are to include Minerva Brown King and Cecelia Gordon Rogers, two of the students who were arrested at the protest, according to an announcement for the event.
