For well-off people who are new to the Charleston area or seeking to relocate, leasing a house can be the best interim choice until a residential purchase opens up.
Although such high-end homes for rent are more common today than in the past, it’s not a cinch to snag an upscale house to lease. Still, in the broad Park West neighborhood east of the Cooper, there’s at least one notable property that fits the description.
The two story residence, at 3132 Sonja Way, offers comfortable living with lots of surrounding space yet close to Pinckney Elementary and Cario Middle schools and not far from Wando High School.
“It is a wonderful family home on a low-traffic street,” says Marcia Rosenberg, who owns the house and is handling the rental. The property, in the Marsh Walk section of Park West, can be rented for $2,950 a month with a year’s lease and would be ready for a tenant to move in by mid-July. That way, children would be well-situated before the start of the school year, she says.
Families aren’t the only possible renters. “An empty-nester couple would also love this house since the master bedroom is on the first floor with access to a large screened porch,” Rosenberg says. The bedroom and porch overlook a tranquil marsh, she says. “They could enjoy easy living on one level, yet have plenty of room upstairs for visits from children and grandchildren.”
Posh fixtures and wide views combine to give the 2,865-square-foot Mount Pleasant home an airy flair.
The house sports four bedrooms, two full baths and a half bath as well as a two-car attached garage. Rosenberg describes 3132 Sonja Way as “a quality, custom-built, marshview home with lots of upgrades.”
According to the owner, the family room touts a fireplace, surround-sound speakers, built-in cherry cabinets and French doors that lead to a large screened porch. Hardwood floors cover the first level.
The private screened-in porch showcases speakers along with its marsh scenes. “You can enjoy outdoor dining and relaxing while you watch the local wildlife,” she says.
The entrance foyer projects a two-story ceiling, while the sizable dining room opens to the family room.
Cherry cabinets, granite counters, stainless steel appliances and walk-in pantry highlight the kitchen. The laundry room – complete with washer and dryer connection, cabinets and ample window light – sits close to the kitchen.
Along with outside views and doors to the porch, the master suite houses two walk-in closets in the bedroom. Jetted tub, large shower with dual shower heads and bench, granite counters and separate sinks distinguish the bathroom.
A wide stairway leads to three oversized bedrooms upstairs, she says. Two bedrooms face the marsh. One of the bedrooms encompasses a bonus room: Rosenberg says it can double as a playroom, exercise room, office or extra storage area. Travertine floors and granite counters spotlight the upstairs bathroom.
Other home features include security, central vacuum and irrigation systems; lawn care; and pest control. Smoking is not allowed, Rosenberg says.
Park West attractions such as a swimming pool, tennis courts and playground are included in the rent. “This house is a must see,” she says.
The rental residence is on the west side of Marsh Walk. Heading north on U.S. Highway 17 in Mount Pleasant, travel past the Isle of Palms connector road and S.C Highway 41. Turn left into Park West. Follow Park West Boulevard for about two miles and swing through a roundabout as the road bears left. Turn right at a second roundabout to Grey Marsh Road. Take the second left on Bloomingdale Lane, which runs into Sonja Way. Ahead is 3132 Sonja Way.
