Plant City, Fla. — The Charleston Battery conceded four unanswered goals before Heviel Cordoves and Jose Cuevas each scored, but it was too little too late as VSI Tampa Bay held on for the win, 4-2, Saturday night at Plant City Stadium.
Tampa Bay (8-6-3) pulled even with the Battery (7-5-6) for a share of sixth place in the USL Pro standings. The top eight teams advance to the postseason.
Charleston started poorly, giving up three goals in an eight-minute, first-half stretch.
But the Battery finally got on the board when forward Cordoves headed home from a Dane Kelly cross in the 63rd minute, and Cuevas converted a stoppage-time penalty as Charleston lost consecutive games for the first time this season.
The Battery return to Blackbaud Stadium on Friday for a 7:30 p.m. match against Dayton.
