COLUMBIA— With peach season at its peak, the South Carolina Peach Council is inviting people to the State Farmers Market to celebrate the fruit.
Saturday is Peach Day at the market, and the council is joining with the South Carolina Department of Agriculture to give everyone who comes through the gate a free peach.
California is the only state that produces more peaches than South Carolina.
Peach season started late because of the cold, wet spring and should be winding down over the next month.
