A contemporary sedan is a model that does many things well.
It features good styling, good performance, good economy and provides good safety. These models do not excel in any of these particular features. In short, contemporary models are average and therefore appeal to a wide range of buyers.
The Honda Accord is the original contemporary sedan. In recent years, competition from the Hyundai Sonata, the Ford Fusion and the Toyota Camry have threatened its throne.
The Accord is so well engineered, that Honda’s older variations compare well to its newer competition.
In fact, I rated the last generation Accord third in a comparison test behind the 2012 Hyundai Sonata and the then all-new 2012 Toyota Camry. This new Accord has elevated the standard even higher.
Like most Honda models, the 2013 Accord’s styling is conservative. It is a handsome model, but it is not a model that stands out from its competition. I like the overall look of the new Accord, but I am disappointed in the styling of the taillights that look similar to the units on the Hyundai Genesis.
The Honda Accord I recently tested was equipped with a six-speed manual transmission that was a joy to operate. Its shifter was light and precise. The steering was easy to point and worked well with the sporty suspension.
We had a great time cruising around Charlotte in the Accord visiting the Dog Bar, the Whitewater Center and Charlotte Seens Passport For Fashion show.
Take a look at my video review of the 2013 Honda Accord for my thoughts on the all-new model.
