A fleet of approximately 35 boats is scheduled to fish the MegaDock Billfishing Tournament, the fourth of five events that comprise the South Carolina Governor’s Cup Billfishing Series.

Weigh-ins: Daily 5-7 p.m. at City Marina on Lockwood Boulevard
Fishing begins Thursday and continues through Saturday with boats allowed to fish two out of three days, captain’s choice. Daily weigh-ins will run from 5-7 p.m. at the Charleston City Marina. Parking and a shuttle service is available at St. Mary’s Field at the corner of Lockwood Boulevard and Broad Street.
First prize in the tournament is $10,000, although more than $300,000 is expected to be paid through various tournament levels.
Boats score 600 points for releasing a blue marlin, 300 for releasing a white marlin and 200 for sailfish releases. Blue marlin brought to the dock score point per pound.
Micabe, owned by Mike Larrow, won last year’s MegaDock Tournament, with 1,800 points for releasing one blue marlin and six sailfish.
All of the top 10 boats in the Governor’s Cup standings are entered in the MegaDock tournament.
Showtime, owned by Fred Hardwick and captained by Wink Doerzbacher, leads the 2013 Governor’s Cup with 3,575 points. Showtime was the winner of the Bohicket Marina Invitational Billfish Tournament. Sportin’ Life, which won the Georgetown Blue Marlin Tournament, is second with 3,210 points.
Rounding out the top 10 are: Cacique, 2,675; Rascal, 2,675; Game On, 2,675; Chasin, 1,950; Arica, 1,790; Frayed Knot, 1,750; and Reel Patience, 1,675.
