Police: Man busted outside Moncks Corner Walmart after trying to break into chief’s truck
A man accused of trying to break into a police chief’s truck Tuesday night is behind bars.
Bonneau Police Chief Franco Fuda saw a man trying to get into his truck outside the Moncks Corner Walmart around midnight and put him in handcuffs, according to an incident report from Moncks Corner police.
Tysheem Lamar Gavin, 25, of Glover Road in Pineville, was arrested and charged with attempted carjacking, disorderly conduct and public intoxication.
Officers already were looking for Gavin after a woman said he tried to force his way into her truck at a nearby car wash, according to the police report. The woman told police a man tried to get into her truck, then chased her and yelled obscenities when she closed the door and drove away.
While officers were talking with the woman, Fuda called to say he had the man in custody, according to the report.
Officers said they found a box cutter when they searched Gavin. He was being held Wednesday at the Berkeley County jail.
