Rome Braves steal win from Charleston RiverDogs
The Rome Braves stole a season-high 10 bases en route to a 7-3 win over the Charleston RiverDogs in South Atlantic League play Monday at Riley Park in front of 2,544 fans.
Jose Peraza had four stolen bases and Kyle Wren three for the Braves.
With the loss, the RiverDogs fell to 5-6 in the second half and 44-35 on the season. The Braves moved to 40-41 on the season and 4-8 in the second half.
Charleston took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on Cito Culver’s seventh home run of the season.
Former USC Gamecock Tyler Webb (0-1) entered the game in the sixth inning in relief of RiverDogs starting pitcher Evan Rutckyj. In his RiverDogs debut, Webb was unable to slow down the Braves’ offense. Chris Edmondson’s two-run single gave Rome a 5-3 lead.
Frank Lafreniere (4-6) was the winning pitcher for Rome. Eric Pfisterer picked up his first save of the season.
The second game of the three-game series against the Rome Braves is at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday. Righty Vicente Campos (1-2, 4.15 ERA) will be on the mound for Charleston, and the Braves will counter with righty Williams Perez (5-3, 3.97). It also will be Two-for-$20 Date Night. The deal includes two tickets, two slices of pizza, two Pepsis and a popcorn, all for $20. Seats for Tuesday’s game are sold out, but standing-room tickets are still available for $7.
Those with standing-room tickets are guaranteed admission but are not guaranteed a seat.
