A 30-year-old Berkeley County man died early Sunday morning after the car he was driving ran off the side of U.S. Highway 52 near St. Stephen.
Michael Governor of St. Stephen died at the scene from blunt force injuries, Berkeley County Coroner Bill Salisbury said.
Governor was driving a 2006 Lexus east on U.S. Highway 52 about 4:20 a.m. when the car ran off the right side of the road near Peru road and hit a ditch, causing the car to overturn, S.C. Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Sonny Collins said.
Governor, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the car, authorities said.
A passenger in the car was taken to Trident Medical Center with injuries not considered to be life-threatening, authorities said.
The wreck is still under investigation, Collins said.
