Charleston police charge 16-year-old with sex assault of 12-year-old girl

Charleston police charged a teenage boy with sexual assault of a 12-year-old James Island girl, an arrest affidavit states.

Joseph Stone Bailey, 16, of Camp Road, is charged with second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor concerning an assault that allegedly occurred last year, police said.

On Jan. 2, a 12-year-old girl told a resource officer at James Island Middle School that she was assaulted sometime between Nov. 18 and Nov. 22, an incident report states.

The girl reported that an older boy gave her Four Locos to drink while hanging out at a Camp Road residence. The girl became intoxicated and unable to walk or leave after drinking the alcoholic beverage, according to the affidavit.

The boy removed the girl’s clothing, police said, and fondled her. She told him to stop, but he continued to kiss and eventually sexually assaulted her, the affidavit states.

Bailey was held at the Charleston County jail in lieu of a $25,000 bail set Thursday, court records show.
