Search for possible body off Sullivan’s Island on hold

A man threatening to jump from the Ravenel Bridge interrupted the search for a possible body floating off Sullivan’s Island, Sheriff’s Maj. Jim Brady said.

The search will resume once resources have cleared from the bridge, Brady said.

Rescuers searched the ocean for several hours Sunday after a boater reported seeing what might have been a body in the water, but nothing was found.

It was never confirmed on Sunday that a body was in the water.

The boater reported that a body might be floating 2 to 3 miles offshore from Breech Inlet about 4:30 p.m., Charleston County Sheriff’s Maj. Jim Brady said.

The Sheriff’s Office Marine Patrol, Coast Guard and rescue squads from Isle of Palms, Sullivan’s Island and Charleston County participated in the search.
