A 71-year-old Goose Creek man died after his SUV ran off the road Monday morning.
Berkeley County Coroner Bill Salisbury identified him as Baron Hancock.
A 2000 Chevy sport utility vehicle was traveling west on U.S. Highway 176 and went off the road near Cooper Store Road about 8:40 a.m., according to the Highway Patrol. The vehicle went off the right side of the highway, overcorrected, went off the left side and hit a tree.
The driver was not wearing a seat belt, and rescue workers had to extricate him from the vehicle, according to Salisbury and the S.C. Highway Patrol. No other vehicles were involved.
Hancock was taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead on arrival from blunt-force trauma, Salisbury said.
