A woman helped distract workers at a Chinese restaurant by telling them she needed seats for 35 people, then went behind the counter and took $6,000 Sunday night, according to Walterboro police.
An employee at the China Buffet at 2056 Bells Highway told police a woman came in and said she needed the seats for her birthday party. The staff started preparing tables, leaving only one person behind the counter, according to police.
A man started talking to the employee up front, while a woman started looking behind the counter.
Surveillance photos released Monday show the man and the woman at the counter.
Police said the pair made off with a money bag containing $6,000, credit cards, a debit card, a Social Security card and a driver’s license.
