The Charleston County Coroner’s Office has identified the man found floating off the coast of Sullivan’s Island Friday morning.
Deputy Coroner Brittney Martin said the body was that of Clinton Wade, 46, from Mount Pleasant. He was pronounced dead on the scene, she said, and the cause of death was drowning.
A boater spotted Wade’s body near the jetties in the Charleston Harbor across from the island. The boater called 911 at 6:23 a.m., Sheriff’s Maj. Jim Brady has said.
The body was recovered about 7:45 a.m., Charleston County EMS Director Don Lundy has said.
Sullivan’s Island Rescue, Isle of Palms Rescue, Charleston County Sheriff’s Office Marine Patrol and the U.S. Coast Guard conducted the recovery from a boat landing across from a row of homes off Osceola Drive.
The death remains under investigation.
