James Island town administrator leaving

The administrator for the town of James Island has announced his departure, citing health concerns and a desire to spend more time with his family.

Hal Mason was the town’s administrator during James Island’s third incorporation and came back for the fourth installment that formally established the town as legal last year.

Mason, 66, will stay on for two more months to help with the transition. Mayor Bill Woolsey said a search for a successor would begin immediately.

Mason had previously served locally as the administrator in Hanahan from 2005 to 2009.
