Summerville house fire displaces resident

One man was displaced from his Summerville home in an early morning fire on Tuesday, officials say.

Old Fort firefighters were dispatched about 2:30 a.m. to Sage Lane, Lt. Ramon Tucker said. The home is located in the West Oaks subdivision off S.C. Highway 61.

Half of the home was engulfed in flames when crews arrived at the scene, he said.

The fire took about an hour to control, Tucker said, adding that the home was a total loss.

Witnesses reported that lightning may have caused the fire, but the incident remains under investigation, Tucker said.

No injuries were reported. The displaced man is being assisted by family members, Tucker said.
